What is Public Health Modernization?
Public Health Modernization is a framework in Oregon. It outlines the skills and services every pubic health department needs. The purpose of modernization is to make sure everyone in Oregon has the best chance at health.

Why is it important?
Why is it Important?
The goal of modernization is for everyone in the community to have good health. It is vital for our health system to be able to plan, prevent, and take care of health problems. This can be done by:
- Planning how to help in harmful natural events.
- Testing and treating sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
- Tracking and slowing the spread of disease (measles, salmonella, shigella, etc.).
- Working with local groups to provide education to the public.
What is Marion County Health & Human Services Doing?
Marion County Health & Human Services' Public Health Division makes modernization a priority. Some examples include:
- Changing how we share health facts with the community.
- Creating new ways to store and gather data.
- Learning how to protect people from intense cold and heat.
- Planning to make sure everyone can use health services.
- Working with community members on the Marion County Communicable Disease Task Force*.
*Marion County Communicable Disease Task Force is a group of community members and Marion County staff working to slow the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) throughout Marion County.
