General Information
Staffed around the clock, the Transition Center provides an intermediate sanction between Jail and Probation. Unlike the Jail, the Transition Center provides minimum-security supervision. Residents are expected to work, either at their own jobs, or by performing community services. They must pay any court ordered fines, restitution, supervision fees and when applicable, family and/or child support. "In-house" sanctions include removal/denial of passes, room restriction, assignment to work crews, etc. External sanctions include returning to court, program termination and commitment to Jail or State Prison.
The Transition Center provides:
A sanction for the courts
Alternative to Jail
Parole and Probation intervention tool
Emergency population release valve for the Jail
The Transition Center serves sentenced offenders in the following categories:
Work release (individuals transferred from the Jail)
Offenders sentenced by the courts
Probation/Parole violation (in lieu of Jail or Prison)
The Center is able to house 144 offenders and acts as a transitional program to prepare inmates for release to the community.
Currently located within the Marion County Transition Center is the
DeMuniz Resource Center, which provides information and services to formerly incarcerated individuals working to rebuild successful lives in the community.
