Volunteer Recognition
Marion County Board of Commissioners recognize outstanding volunteers with annual volunteer awards. Volunteers are recognized in 5 categories: Youth Volunteer of the Year, Advisory Board Volunteer of the Year, Division/Program Award, Commissioner Mary Pearmine Outstanding Volunteer Group Award, and the Judge Rex Hartley Volunteer of the Year Award.
Anyone may nominate a county volunteer or group for this annual recognition. Volunteers may be honored for ongoing or past service to a program, or for work on a one-time project, during the calendar year 2021. Nominations are accepted year-round, with an annual deadline set each year. The deadline to submit a nomination for the 2021 Volunteer Awards is

2020 Volunteer Awards were presented at the Marion County Fair in July. It was a wonderful opportunity for our Board of Commissioners, Department Heads and other elected officials to personally thank our volunteers for their volunteer service. We are pleased to announce our 2020 Volunteer Award recipients!
2020 Outstanding Program/Department Volunteer
Four individuals were recognized for their outstanding contribution to a Marion County program, the customer or clientele served, and the community served by the program.
2020 Youth Volunteer of the Year
This award was developed to recognize volunteer accomplishments of young people 24 years and under.
2020 Commissioner Mary Pearmine Volunteer Group of the Year
This award honors the late Mary Pearmine who served as commissioner for Marion County from 1991- 98. In addition to being the first woman commissioner, she was also a champion of volunteers and volunteer groups. The name of the volunteer group receiving the Mary Pearmine award is added to the perpetual plaque displayed at Courthouse Square in downtown Salem.

2020 Judge Rex Hartley Volunteer of the Year
The late Rex Hartley served as a county judge and commissioner for Marion County from 1951-66. Judge Hartley was dedicated to involving citizens in the development of the county. The volunteer receiving the Judge Rex Hartley award is given an engraved award, and his or her name is added to the perpetual plaque displayed at Courthouse Square in downtown Salem.
