Monument Box Requirements for Plats
Per the Marion County Surveyor, monument boxes are required for all public land corner monuments that fall within the paved surfaces of any newly created right of ways. Unless specifically requested by another jurisdiction, monument boxes will not be required for centerline monuments that fall within the paved surfaces associated with condominium, partition, and subdivision plats. It is requested that 5/8” by 30” iron rods with aluminum caps be used within the paved surfaces of plats.
The purpose for a standardized frame and cover is to facilitate replacement of missing covers in the future.
The following monument boxes (frames) and covers have been approved for use in Marion County, as approved by the County Surveyor:
8 - inch Frames and Covers
The 8" boxes are typically acceptable for most local streets (subdivisions) with speeds of less than 35 miles per hour.
