Call for Artists for Marion County's Trashion Fashion Show

Posted by: Public Works - Environmental Services

Calling all artists, crafters, and upcyclers! Marion County Environmental Services will host a Trashion Show at the Marion County Fair, on Sunday, July 14 at 11:00 a.m.  Fusing trash and fashion, Trashion promotes waste-reduction and consumption alternatives through thoughtful use of reuse materials, fashion, and design. The Marion County Fair Trashion Exhibit provides an opportunity for adults and youth ages 8 and older to use their design skills to create and exhibit a recycled/reused garment created from items that would otherwise be thrown in the trash.

"We encourage participants to dig through their trash and recycling bins or incorporate litter from their community into their garments. The best trashion instantly tells an engaging, visual story about waste reduction and consumption" says Jessica Ramey, a waste reduction coordinator with Marion County.

Fashions must be made from at least 75% recyclable or reused materials that would otherwise be thrown away or recycled. One best in show prize will be awarded with $250 and two merit prizes will be given at $100 each.

Starting now through June 24, Marion County is accepting applicants.

To learn more about the contest, visit the Trashion Contest website at https://www.co.marion.or.us/PW/ES/disposal/events/Pages/Trashion-Contest.aspx, or contact Jessica Ramey at 503-365-3180 or  jsramey@co.marion.or.us.
