Aumsville Wetlands History
Marion County has acquired the northern portion of the Aumsville Wetlands site from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). ODOT used the site as wetland mitigation for the Hwy 22 expansion project. Prior to this, the area was a rock quarry. The southern portion of the site was managed by Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife as a hatchery.
Since Marion County acquired the land for its restoration potential, it has been used for Environmental Studies at Chemeketa Community College. The northern and southern portions have been combined under County ownership and restored to a 77-acre native wetland complex.
