Public safety town hall forum set for Silverton, Mt. Angel & Scotts Mills communities

Posted by: Board of Commissioners Office

The Marion County Public Safety Coordinating Council will hold a public safety town hall forum on Thursday, June 23, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. for the Silverton, Mt. Angel, and Scotts Mills communities. The forum will be held at Silverton Hospital in the Family Birth Center, second floor conference room D. The hospital is located at 342 Fairview Street, Silverton.

Featured guests include District Attorney Walt Beglau; Commissioner Janet Carlson, public safety council chair; and Ed McKenney, long-time council member who will serve as the forum's emcee.

Over the past few months the council has hosted a series of town hall discussions across Marion County. The council looks forward to this opportunity to describe progress and challenges on important public safety issues such as juvenile justice, emergency preparedness, homelessness, and justice reinvestment. However, the primary goal is to hear the comments, questions, and concerns of community members. Information gathered at the forum will guide the council's future work.

Commissioner Carlson said, "We're eager to meet with residents from the Silverton, Mt. Angel, and Scotts Mills communities to hear your thoughts. We'll launch with an update on initiatives the council has been involved in this year and then open the meeting for the audiences' choice of topics."

The Public Safety Coordinating Council meets monthly and serves in an advisory capacity to the Marion County Board of Commissioners. Council representatives work collaboratively on public safety issues and encourage effective use of community resources to prevent and reduce crime, and increase safety within our communities. The council is made up of representatives from local law enforcement, cities, courts, victim advocates, juvenile services, non-profits, business and citizen representatives. Meetings are open to the public. For more information, visit http://www.co.marion.or.us/BOC/PSCC.
