2016 Marion County Gravel Road Product Test
In March, many attended the
OACES 2016 Enhanced Gravel Road Treatment Workshop in Redmond, from which Marion County decided to host a
2016 Gravel Road Product Test. All are invited to review the performance of the products and also visit the four test areas to see the roads as they are treated. Links to the products list and area maps are listed below.
Marion County is doing side-by-side applications of soil stabilizers some of which have never been used in Oregon. On June 21 - 23, crews are applying the first of the nine different products over four test areas.
In these tests our focus is enhanced public safety on gravel roads using alternative products and practices. Even through dust abatement (quality of life) will be an outcome that we will monitor, our intention is to reduce adverse wash-boarding and keep road aggregate materials in place.
The general on the ground applications are immediate surface treatments, with a few products possibly being graded in at some minimal depth. Other tools and processes may be used such as watering and compaction, as directed.
Product suppliers have been gracious in their participation in these tests and offered some products generally used in road building for these product reviews.
We will be signing the reach of each product applications on these roads and all are welcome to visit any of the sites with self-guided tours using the web information.
All four test areas are south of
Scotts Mills, a small city between Silverton and Molalla.
