Joryville Park

Joryville Park is a natural, wooded area with a stream meandering through the park at the base of the hill. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Jory, pioneers of the area, gave the land to the South Salem Chamber of Commerce in the 1950's for a park. Later, when the SSCC was dissolved, the Chamber deeded the land to Marion County. With the assistance of 4-H'ers, a horse riding arena was developed near the entrance. Equestrian and pedestrian trails from the base to the top of the hill were developed with use of work relief crews. The roadway through the park and parking area at the top of the hill near the shelter building was paved with blacktop with the assistance of Federal Land and Water funds. The park is heavily used for day camps, by youth groups, and for family gatherings. There are also individual picnic sites located along Jory Creek.

In 1980, the park was closed to vehicles. Park users must park their vehicles at the base of the hill, by the horse arena.

Turn south onto Liberty Road from Kuebler Blvd. in Salem and travel five miles south to Jory Road. Travel approx. 2 miles west on Jory Road and then one mile south on Elmhurst Ave. to the park entrance.
