Juvenile Department Programs
Population Served
Informal process addresses youth ages 8 – 18, through diversion, and Formal Accountability Agreements, which may include restitution payments, community service, fines, evaluation, etc.
Formal process includes filing of a petition and appearance in court, followed by supervised probation if adjudicated on the criminal allegation.
Sanctions, Services and Programs
To accomplish our mission, we develop and refine a continuum of creative and innovative sanctions, services and programs, and work in partnership with the greater juvenile justice system:
Diversion provides consequences to low risk youth while diverting them out of the formalized programs and services. Diversion services, typically provided by community programs, include peer courts, mediation, community services etc.
Informal Probation provides consequences to youth requiring that conditions be completed within a short time frame and gives youth the opportunity to prove that they do not need a higher level of intervention.
Formal Probation provides supervision of court ordered conditions by applying Effective Practices in Correctional Setting (EPICS).
Detention provides a secure placement for youth waiting for court, waiting for an opening in a treatment program, and as a consequence for violating conditions of supervision.
Guaranteed Attendance Program (GAP) provides a staff secure shelter care for youth unable to remain in their residence, waiting for a program opening and serves as a detention alternative.
Alternative Programs provides unskilled to highly skilled work opportunities developing and increasing skills, and most importantly allowing for youth to earn money to pay victim restitution.
Family Support Program provides assessment and support through parenting skill development, counseling, educational enhancement, and linkages to community programs for youth and families.
STAR (Substance Abuse Treatment and Recovery) is a partnership with the Court and Juvenile Department to hold accountable, and intervene in youth substance abuse, particularly methamphetamine.
Administration provides the oversight of budget, personnel, programs, and services.
