    ALBANY MAN DROWNS WHILE FLOATING SANTIAM RIVER

    On 7/26/20 at 4:31 p.m. deputies responded to a report of a man that fell off a tube while floating the Santiam River near Interstate 5. A witness said he saw the man fall off the tube and go under, come back up and tried swimming against the current before going back under. This occurred approximately 30’ from the shoreline. The man was not wearing a life jacket. The decedent’s name is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

    The Marion County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Albany Fire Department, Jefferson Fire Department, Linn County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, and Benton County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol.
