The Marion County Board of Commissioners is pleased to announce the appointment of Ryan Matthews as Health & Human Services Administrator. He has served as Interim Administrator since January 2020. His appointment is effective August 1, 2020.Mr. Matthews has served Marion County Health & Human Services for 16 years in various roles and most recently as the department's Administrative Services Division Manager. He has extensive professional experience in finance, budget, and health administration.Mr. Matthews has led the department since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Commissioner Colm Willis, chair, said, "Ryan Matthews has provided steady leadership during this unprecedented public health emergency. I am thrilled he is willing to continue to serve during this difficult time.""It is an honor to be appointed as the Health & Human Services Administrator. I have seen the legacy of strong leadership and Marion County's commitment to excellence. My goal is to support the health and safety of our community," said Ryan Matthews. He continued, "While the top priority remains our response to COVID-19, we will also be investing in core infrastructure to enhance service delivery and improve access to our wide range of services."Mr. Matthews will lead a large, complex department with more than 450 employees across numerous public and mental health program areas. Major programs include adult and youth mental health, intellectual and developmental disabilities services, alcohol and drug treatment, and public health services such as communicable disease control, maternal and child health, environmental health, and more.
