    County to hold budget hearings

    ​Marion County will hold Budget Committee hearings on Thursday, June 1, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Monday, June 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. All meetings will be held in the Senator Hearing Room of Courthouse Square located at 555 Court Street NE, Salem. Budget Committee meetings are broadcast live in the Salem area on Comcast channel 21 and streamed live on YouTube (http://bit.ly/MarionCoMeetings).

    Time is set aside at each meeting for public comment regarding the proposed fiscal year 2017-2018 budget. The first Public Comment Period will be held June 1 at 5:15 p.m. and the second on June 5 at 8:45 a.m.

    Chief Administrative Officer, and Budget Officer, John Lattimer will deliver the Budget Officer's Message during the opening session. His message will outline the proposed Fiscal Year 2017-18 county budget, program highlights and recommendations for new programs or staffing.

    The Budget Committee will hear presentations from each county department describing their services, funding needs and important issues affecting program budgets. The Budget Committee will forward the approved budget to the Board of Commissioners for final adoption in late June. The Budget Committee is made up of three citizen members and three commissioners.

    The budget will be available for public review by 11:00 a.m. on June 1 on the Marion County website at www.co.marion.or.us with a physical copy at the front desk of the Board of Commissioners Office located at 555 Court Street NE, Suite 5232, Salem.
