    Posted by: District Attorney's Office

9th Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Run/Walk, Steps to Safety, Scheduled for October 10

    Salem, OR -October 2, 2015

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and on October 10th runners and walkers will gather at the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training with a goal of raising awareness for domestic violence in Marion County. The event offers a 5k and 10k route that encompasses the police academy's training course and scenario village for some exciting race day scenery and a unique opportunity to access an otherwise closed facility.

This year's event has garnered renewed support from the local business community including a partnership of the Salem Convention Center & US Bank. "Steps to Safety is about gathering the Salem community and taking steps to raise awareness for a cause that affects so many. We are thankful to all our partners who make this event possible." - Erin Wissig, Race Manager.

Proceeds from Steps to Safety are being donated to the Center for Hope and Safety (formerly the Mid-Valley Women's Crisis Service), to other awareness activities, and to fund the race for years to come.

If you are interested in sponsoring or participate in the event please visit www.mcdvcouncil.org

You can also support the event by eating at the Lancaster Chipotle on October 9th from 11-7pm. 50% of all orders will be donated to Steps to Safety when you mention the event or show them the flyer posted on the website.

"We are working to raise awareness for this important cause and to raise money for services and support that will help our neighbors. This is a fun community event and we are so excited to be celebrating our 9th year." - Kim Larson, Marion County Victim Assistance Director
