St Louis Road Railroad Crossing Improvement
The project is located on St. Louis Road at the crossing of the BNSF Railway Company line leased to Portland and Western Railroad. The crossing is approximately 0.8 miles west of I-5 and 1.6 miles northwest of the city of Gervais.
Project Purpose and Need
The railroad crossing is currently controlled by STOP signs. All other BNSF Railway public highway crossings in Marion County are controlled by flashing light signals and automatic gates or are grade separated. Upgrading the crossing to flashing light signals and gates will enhance the safety at this location.
Remove existing STOP signs and install flashing light signals, automatic gates and guardrail. The grade of St. Louis Road will be raised on both approaches to the crossing to accommodate increased speeds resulting from removal of the STOP signs. Tesch Lane will also be raised at its intersection with St. Louis Road. The road may be closed to through traffic during the raising of the road grade. Local traffic access to adjacent properties and to the County Park south of Tesch Lane will be allowed during the road closure.
