2017 Recycling Art Calendar Contest
Four students from Marion County were honored at the Marion County Board of Commissioners meeting on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, and their artwork is published in the Student Recycle Art Calendar Poster. In an effort to promote waste reduction and resource conservation in local schools, Marion County Public Works - Environmental Services and Mid-Valley Garbage & Recycling Association teamed up to create this year's Student Recycle Art Calendar Poster contest.
Beginning in April, students throughout Marion County began submitting illustrations that addressed this year's theme "Less is More." Students were encouraged to think of ways in which they can help prevent waste at school and home. The committee received 160 entries and selected four winners based not only on their artistic ability, but also on the content of their message. The 2016 art calendar award winners are:
|Sean Collier||11||Sprague High School|
|Victoria Canchola||9||Early College High School|
|Alexis Reeves||6||Howard Street Charter School|
|David González||1||Swegle Elementary School|
This year we also recognize Sprague High School's art teacher, Connie Toland. Her student is awarded the grand prize, and his artwork is featured on the cover of the calendar poster. We realize that teachers play a critical role in making this contest successful and we want to also recognize their hard work.
Poster calendars are free and available by visiting Marion County Public Works at 5155 Silverton Road NE, Salem, Oregon or by calling 503-365-3180, or by calling Mid-Valley Garbage & Recycling Association at 503-390-4000.
